Mining Engineer

As a Mining Engineer, your responsibilities may include:

• Designing and developing mining operations and processes.
• Overseeing mine construction and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Conducting feasibility studies and resource estimation.
• Collaborating with geologists, hydrogeologists, exploration geologists, environmental consultants, and other specialists to address complex challenges in mining operations.
• Developing methods for mineral extraction and ore processing.
• Monitoring mine production to optimize efficiency and output.
• Managing mine closures and rehabilitation of mining sites.
• Leading Heavy Mining Equipment (“HME”) studies for the purchasing and replacement of fleet on the mine site.
• Close collaboration with engineering and maintenance personnel to ensure optimal fleet utilisation and correct application.
• Resource and Reserve estimation and declaration.
• Consulting services in both current, new and future operations.
• Detailed work around the “mine of the future” to reduce carbon emissions and drive fleet automation.
• Carrying legal appointments as required in both the Mine Health and Safety Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.

• Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency to carry certain legal appointments.

About ECSA

The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is a statutory body established in terms of the Engineering Profession Act (EPA), 46 of 2000. The ECSA's primary role is the regulation of the engineering profession in terms of this Act. Its core functions are the accreditation of engineering programmes, registration of persons as professionals in specified categories, and the regulation of the practice of registered persons.

Consequently, the ECSA is the only body in South Africa that is authorised to register engineering professionals and bestow the use of engineering titles, such as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng, Pr Techni Eng, Pr Cert Eng, on persons who have met the requisite professional registration criteria.
